Before the COVID-19 pandemic began, in-person meetings were one of the ways OCTA used to share information about the impacts and improvements associated with freeway progress. Restrictions on gatherings due to COVID-19 and the need for social distancing, however, put a temporary halt to such meetings.
In March 2020, OCTA successfully pivoted to virtual meetings, and this approach has proved popular. During the 22 virtual meetings conducted about the I-405 Improvement Project, a total of nearly 1,000 people have attended and 4,862 meeting recordings have been viewed on the project’s YouTube Playlist.
Most recently, OCTA hosted a virtual meeting with 31 attendees for the Beach Boulevard community via Zoom on July 22 to provide an update on construction activities.
Here’s how a typical meeting is conducted: OCTA shares a presentation about the project. Questions are submitted with Zoom’s Q&A function, are read aloud and answered verbally by the hosts, and links to project materials and resources are posted in the Chat box. Within 24 hours after the meeting, registrants receive a link to the meeting recording and a survey.
