National Dump the Pump Week begins June 17. OCTA is sponsoring contests and incentives in celebration of this event, which runs through June 21.
Join OCTA in dumping the pump by pledging to use public transportation (bus or rail), rideshare, bicycle, or walk to work for one day. Register your pledge online, including your preferred alternate mode of transportation and the number of miles that you normally commute, at www.octa.net/DumpthePump, and participants will be entered in a drawing for free prizes.
This year’s campaign kicked off early with a photo contest. Orange County commuters are posting photos of themselves (and their friends and family) riding the bus, taking the train or ridesharing. Photos should be uploaded onto the OCTA Dump the Pump website at www.octa.net/DumpthePump. Encourage your friends and family to check out your posted photos, and to vote for their favorites by June 21, and be sure to check the website for the current vote tallies. At the end of June, the Orange County commuters who posted the three photos that receive the highest number of votes will each win a $500 gift card.
Dump the Pump Week strives to improve traffic mobility and reduce pollution and traffic congestion in Orange County by introducing commuters to alternative modes of transportation. Sharing a ride with other commuters saves money, lowers your stress level, contributes to a cleaner environment, and allows you to meet new and interesting people.
During Dump the Pump Week, OCTA staff will give away a limited number of one-day bus passes and round-trip Metrolink tickets as an incentive to participants who choose the bus or Metrolink on their pledge form.
