Today marks the end of National Bike Month, an annual campaign that encourages commuters to try cycling as an alternative form of transportation.
During Bike Month, Orange County residents were able to pledge online to ride their bikes to be entered in a raffle for a chance to win an iPad, cycling gear and other prizes. To date, OCTA has received more than 1,100 pledges (equal to 210,000 cycling miles) from commuters who agreed to bike to work, school and other local destinations.
Additionally, throughout the month of May, riders uploaded cycling photos on Instragram and tagged them with #bikeOC for a chance to win a Trek bike, donated by Jax Bicycle Center. More than 350 photos were uploaded as part of the contest. The winning photo will be selected next week and featured on OCTA.net.
Orange County Bike Month is sponsored by Jax Bicycle Center, Oakley, Kaiser Permanente, REI and Spectrumotion.
